On March 26, the Baker Program in Real Estate’s Distinguished Speaker Series will feature Alon Barzilay, founder and CEO of Barzilay Development, based in Center City, Philadelphia, PA.

Alon Barzilay, Founder and CEO, leads Barzilay Development in repurposing city spaces with its innovative building transformations. His creativity and hands-on management approach is seen in every aspect of the way his company does business, from the projects it develops to the imaginative way it handles design, construction, and marketing.

Growing up in a family entrenched in real estate development meant that Alon began learning the industry and dreaming about starting his own company from the time he began playing with Legos. His father, an architect and city planner, was President of Toll Brothers; his mother an interior designer.

Alon quickly established himself as a pioneer in urban adaptive reuse. Prior to founding Barzilay Development, he blazed a reputation as VP and Partner for the Klein Company, intrapreneurially worked for Toll Brothers’ apartment division, and launched a successful real-estate marketing dot.com.

He received a Bachelor’s Degree in Management and Organizational Behavior from Cornell University and a Master’s Degree in Housing and Real Estate Development from Harvard University.

An active member of the community, Alon is on the Executive Board of Jewish Child and Family Services (JCFS)’s Project Empower; is involved with the Entrepreneurs’ Organization (EO), Project Agahozo-Shalom Youth Village in Rwanda, and Seeds of Peace; and founded the Philadelphia Young Leader Group of the Urban Land Institute (ULI).

His other interests include lecturing on real-estate development and on what superhero films can teach about entrepreneurship and cultural history at universities, and for professional organizations. He also pilots helicopters, rides motor scooters, is an accomplished musician, and is currently an executive producer of a Hollywood film.
